Lync, the follow-on to Microsoft’s Office Communicator, provides instant messaging (IM), desktop sharing, video, and audio communication, using ITS’s Lync server.

Log in

 The sign-in address has to be your email alias (first-last@uiowa.edu). Click Sign In and the Username is iowa\HawkID and the Password is your Hawk ID password.

Auto Start

Once the Lync software has been installed, you will see that Lync always opens a window for you to log in. To keep Lync from opening when you log in, when Lync is running, go to Tools | Options and uncheck “Automatically start Lync when I log on to Windows”.

Locally Administered Computer

If you administer your computer and want to install Lync, go to the ITS software download site where you can download the clients for Windows or Macintosh computers. Look for the section "Microsoft Communicator/Lync Clients" on the download page.

Lync 2010 Attendee

Microsoft Lync 2010 Attendee is a conferencing client that allows users without Microsoft Lync 2010 installed, to participate in online meetings. If you are not an administrator on the computer but an administrator has allowed you to perform installations, you can install this application.
