Elder and Hering Labs
The Hering lab, 1220 SC, and Elder lab, 1231 SC, are on the first floor of the Seamans Center. Together those labs have:
- Windows and Linux computers
- 27", 32" or 24" dual monitors
- Laser printing Color/BW
- Users can print to printer queue ptrecs-labs-pcl and release printing pages from any of the three lab printers.
- Scanners on multifunction printers
- Open 24 hours/day, 7 days/week except when closed for cleaning or maintenance
Although the labs are open all the time, the building is not and you will need your Iowa One® access card to enter the building.
Eltoft SC Lab
The Eltoft Lab in 2301 SC lab is just off the south entrance to the Seamans Center.
- Windows and Linux computers

Computers, Workstations, Printers, Scanners
Of the 212 total workstations, 32 run Linux and 180 run Windows. There are 6 remotely available Linux computers. When you are working in a lab, notice that each Windows computer or Linux workstation has a name. Windows are named ENGR-L-COExxx and Linux named L-LNXxxx. If you have trouble with a computer, please report the problem using the form or to the Engineering Help Desk, 1256 SC, 319-335-5055, and include the name of the computer that is being difficult as well as a description of the problem.
Scanners - multifunction printer have copier/scanner capabilities.
